Hb Electrophoresis (Haemoglobin Electrophoresis) is a blood test used to find different types of haemoglobin in your blood. It is an important diagnostic tool for detecting abnormal haemoglobin variants and haemoglobin disorders, such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia.

Why is it Important?

1. Diagnosing Blood Disorders:

  • Sickle Cell Disease/Trait (HbS)
  • Thalassemia (Alpha or Beta)
  •  Haemoglobin C, D, E, and other variants

2. Genetic Counselling:

  • Identifies carriers of haemoglobinopathies, which is vital for family planning and prenatal care.

3. Monitoring Treatment:

  • In individuals with known disorders, it helps assess the effectiveness of treatment or monitor progression of disease.
