A blood group test determines your blood type, which is essential for safe blood transfusions, organ transplants and pregnancy management. Your blood type is based on the presence or absence of specific antigens on the surface of your red blood cells.
Types of Blood Groups:
- ABO Blood Group: Classifies blood into four groups based on the presence or absence of A and B antigens:
- Type A: Has A antigens.
- Type B: Has B antigens.
- Type AB: Has both A and B antigens (universal plasma donor).
- Type O: Has no A or B antigens (universal red blood cell donor).
- Rh Factor: Determines if your blood type is positive or negative:
- Rh-positive (Rh+): Has the Rh antigen on red blood cells.
